    Summary

    The BBVA Compass Foundation knows that each community have unique needs and opportunities. The goal of the Foundation's charitable giving programs, is to provide funding for addressing these community needs and opportunities. The BBVA Compass Foundation will provide priority consideration to funding requests that best reflect the focus area targets detailed below.

    • Community Development (including Financial Literacy) Giving Priorities:
      • Create and preserve affordable housing
      • Alternative financial services and products to LMI communities through Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs)
      • Revitalize the physical infrastructure of LMI neighborhoods
      • Facilitate the creation and preservation of jobs, especially those that employ LMI people
      • Financial education and financial capability aimed at adults and small business owners, especially in LMI communities
      • Support entrepreneurship and provide economic development for minority and underserved groups and/or LMI areas
    • Education Giving Priorities
      • Address pressing needs in Pre-K – 12 education through public school-sponsored or facilitated curriculum-based programs
      • Advance Pre-K – 12 student performance through professional development, support and retention of teachers
      • Facilitate merit-based access to higher education for underrepresented groups
      • Support research and special programs at higher education institutions
    • Health and Human Services Giving Priorities
      • Enable and sustain independence for individuals and families
      • Ensure access to health education programs
      • Ensure access to quality health care
    • Arts and Culture Giving Priorities:
      • Facilitate access to and participation in cultural experiences for LMI and minority populations
      • Promote the integration of the arts into comprehensive community development efforts
      • Ensure the availability of a broad array of artistic opportunities/venues that reflect the diversity of the community
    • Environment and Natural Resources Giving Priorities:
      • Enable and sustain access to green technology and sustainable sources of energy to LMI communities
      • Provide support for projects with significant impact on the protection of the environment and sustainable practices
      • Promote public education about the environment and sustainability
    • Diversity and Inclusion Giving Priorities:
      • Provide capacity building to organizations serving minority segments, especially targeted at low-income populations
      • Provide for leadership development of underrepresented groups through organizations serving minority segments, especially targeted at low-income populations
      • Promote tolerance and understanding among mainstream and minority populations

    Additional Information

    The BBVA Compass Foundation will not fund: 

    • Sponsorships, events or projects for which BBVA and/or its employees receive tangible benefits or privileges. This includes golf tournaments, tables at events and other fundraising activities that include tickets, meals or other benefits.
    • General operating expenses for organizations that already receive substantial support through United Way or other campaigns in which BBVA participates.
    • Programs of a national scope that do not specifically benefit communities in our footprint.
    • Organizations based outside of the United States. 
    • Political action committees, political causes or candidates.
    • Veteran and fraternal organizations.
    • Alumni organizations.
    • Religious organizations that are not engaged in a significant project that is nonsectarian and benefits a broad base of the community.
    • An organization or project that discriminates on the basis of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran's status, or any other status or other classification protected by federal, state or local law.
    • Private foundations.
    • Individual pre-college schools – private or home schools.
    • Individual schools in public school systems (other than through efforts to benefit system-wide programs and initiatives or as a part of a BBVA-sponsored partnership program).

  • Eligibility Details

    Eligible applicants are 501(c)3 agencies operating in one of BBVA Compass' markets inside Alabama; Arizona; California; Colorado; Florida; New Mexico; New York; and Texas.

    Deadline Details

    Applications were to be submitted by July 31, 2020. A similar deadline is anticipated, annually.

    Award Details

    Individual award amounts vary, but generally do not exceed $5,000.
