Examples of areas the foundation does not fund include the following:
The Foundation awards the majority of its grants to U.S. 501 (c)(3) organizations and other tax-exempt organizations identified by Foundation staff. If the Foundation issues a Request for Proposals (RFP) it will contain program specific eligibility criteria.
Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) are accepted on an ongoing basis for certain program areas. For many program areas the Foundation will only accept LOIs in response to a specific Request for Proposals (RFP). The Foundation periodically issues RFPs within their United States Program at http://www.gatesfoundation.org/grantseeker/Pages/grant-opportunities.aspx.
The Foundation does not establish funding limits. Many variables are taken into account when determining an award and amounts vary greatly based on project size and scope.
