    Summary

    The State of Georgia will offer one-time funding for K-12 School Safety Initiatives in 2019. Grants may be used for cameras, metal detectors, facial recognition software, or whichever school safety program local leaders want to fund and implement.


    Funds cannot be used for ongoing expenses such as salaries or rent.

    If a school system believes they have addressed all security needs at a school in their system, they may submit a proclamation that declares all security needs have been addressed at the given school. In the proclamation, the district shall submit details on the work that has been completed at the school where all security needs have been addressed and provide details on how local funds have been expended at that school. This request will need to be submitted and approved in order to alter the use of the funds.

    Eligible applicants are public school districts in the State of Georgia.

    Deadline Details

    Funding is available at the beginning of the GA state fiscal year, July 1.

    Award Details

    Each of Georgia's 2,300 facilities will receive $30,000 in one-time funding. Districts with more than one school facility should should create a budget plan and expend $30,000 per campus. Grants will be provided on a reimbursable basis, which means the funding must be spent first by the school systems before requesting reimbursement. Districts will have until June 30, 2020 to draw down these funds.
