    The Albert and Margaret Alkek Foundation was established to provide support for charitable, religious, scientific, literary and educational organizations and programs serving the people of the State of Texas. The Foundation continues to provide support for charitable, religious, scientific (primarily medical), cultural and educational organizations and programs serving the people of the state of Texas.

    The majority of the Foundation's grants reflect Mr. Alkek's preferences for research and education-related projects that will pay lasting dividends in terms of new discoveries and improved quality of life. Additional grants reflect the Alkek family's strong community involvement, both in Houston and throughout the state.

    The Albert and Margaret Alkek Foundation gives to organizations within the following fields of interest:

    • Elementary and secondary education

    • Family services
    • Graduate and professional education

    The Albert and Margaret Alkek Foundation was established in 1995 in Texas. Please contact the foundation to verify eligibility prior to submission of a full application. Funds may be used for the following purposes: Capital and infrastructure; Capital campaigns; Endowments; General support; Program development; Research; Research and evaluation; and Scholarships.


    The Foundation prefers not to fund: (1) Fund-raising events, advertising in programs, memorials for individuals or other similar activities; (2) Student organizations or charities operated by service clubs; or (3) The purchase of uniforms, equipment, or trips for school-related organizations or sports teams.

  • Eligibility Details

    Giving primarily is limited to non profit organizations in Texas with emphasis on Harris county. No grants to individuals.

    Deadline Details

    Applications are accepted throughout the year. Initial approach should be with a Letter of Inquiry. The one to two-page letter of inquiry should include brief descriptions of your organization and the project for which funds are being considered. It should also state the amount of funding needed in total as well as the amount being requested from the Foundation. The applicant may include brochures or other materials available at hand, describing the organization or proposal in greater detail. 

    Award Details

    Awards vary based on scope and size of project. Awards are up to $1,000,000. The most common award amount is $25,000.
