    Summary

The Raikes Foundation provides opportunities and support during adolescence to help young people become healthy, contributing adults. The foundation is currently funding two initiatives:

    1. The Middle Shift Initiative: Building Agency in Early Adolescents - This Initiative aims to develop agency in young people by building the mindsets and learning strategies that support youth through middle grades and on to college, career, and ultimately, life success.
    2. Youth Program Quality Initiative - To support the provision of technical assistance and training in each county, the Foundation partners with city or county agencies that can serve as local hubs supporting youth organizations through the continuous quality improvement cycle. In Pierce County our partner is the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, in King County our partner is School's Out Washington, and Spokane County United Way is our partner in Spokane. Additional training and technical assistance support is provided by School's Out Washington in all three counties and the David P. Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality. The Youth Program Quality Initiative also aims to drive the development of out-of-school time program quality standards in Washington State.
