    Summary

    The Temple Hoyne Buell Foundation was established in 1962 in order to support the charitable interests of Temple Hoyne Buell, a civic and business leader in Colorado. His interests included the education of architects, research into catastrophic illnesses, and programs throughout Colorado to prepare young people to live healthy lives and contribute responsibly to the community. In 1995, the trustees of the Foundation changed its emphasis to programs and initiatives for children, especially in the areas of early intervention, prevention, and improving the social and educational systems critical to the well-being of Colorado's youngest citizens. The Buell Foundation seeks programs that have demonstrated success in helping children thrive. They support efforts to improve quality and encourage meaningful evaluation and assessment. It is the Foundation's goal to partner with outstanding organizations to improve the systems that serve children. Particular focus will be placed on programs that target underserved communities.

    Early Childhood Education and Development- The Foundation will consider proposals in the following areas that directly support the healthy development of very young children:

    • Early childhood and preschool programs;
    • Home visitation;
    • Professional development and education for service providers;
    • Parent and child interaction;
    • Parenting education;
    • Language development and early literacy;
    • Behavior and social competence in classroom situations;
    • Program assessments;
    • Improvements directly related to quality.

    Social and Emotional Development of Children- The Foundation will consider proposals in the following area that enhances the self-esteem and social competence of elementary school children: Constructive activities during non-school hours in selected geographic areas. Programs should be comprehensive in scope and offer sustained interactions with the participants.

    Family Stability for Children- The Foundation will consider proposals related to Teen pregnancy prevention. Programs should use science-based, comprehensive sexuality education curriculum and be able to prove effectiveness.
