    Summary

Tiger Foundation supports organizations and programs serving the five boroughs of New York City across three portfolios: Education; Family Support; and Youth, Workforce, and Justice. Tiger Foundation's funding is primarily focused on proven, high-impact, direct human services. Across all program areas, the foundation seeks:

    • Strong and consistent measurable outcomes over time
    • Skilled executive, program, and board leadership
    • Cost-effectiveness
    • Financial health and skilled fiscal management
    • Opportunity for broad impact (replicability, scale, and leverage of public and other private investment)
    • Efforts to engage clients and local community and to develop and refine models that are reflective of community needs

Education: The Education portfolio elevates the strongest New York City district and public charter schools, school networks, and community-based organizations to help create an education system where all children have access to excellent schools and services that support the academic and personal development required for success in college, career, and life. Within the Education portfolio, Tiger Foundation prioritizes funding for:

    • Public schools and school networks, both district and charter, that prepare students for success in high school, in college, and in the workforce; that are actively growing to serve additional students; and/or are serving a distinct group of students who are underserved throughout the rest of the educational system.
    • School-support models that add to the capacity of the public education system and its schools to help all students achieve success.
    • Organizations that increase students' access to and persistence through post-secondary pathways, including college and career, providing innovative and comprehensive supports to ensure student success.
    • Programs and interventions that focus on early reading and literacy, with an emphasis on grade-level reading by 3rd grade, and a focus on high-impact tutoring and high-quality instructional materials and approaches.

Family Support: The Family Support portfolio encourages the development of the youngest New Yorkers by helping children access engaging, developmentally appropriate experiences that will prepare them for school and by ensuring that families have access to tools and supports that enable them to thrive. Early childhood is a particularly important time for children's development and providing support for both young children and their families from birth (or before) to age 5 helps inspire long-term positive life outcomes. Within the Family Support portfolio, Tiger Foundation provides funding for:

    • Early childhood programs that foster the development of academic and social-emotional skills and offer full-day, year-round care and supports for families. Programs that serve clients in multiple sites across the city and offer additional programs and wraparound family supports are prioritized.
    • Comprehensive programs that keep families together, reunite families who have had children placed into foster care, and/or offer other solutions for family success and permanency while supporting efforts to achieve stability and positive outcomes for children and their caregivers.
    • Programs that help parents develop the tools, knowledge, and skills to support children's age-appropriate cognitive and social/emotional development, while developing healthy attachments and positive parenting practices.

Youth, Workforce, And Justice: The Youth, Workforce, and Justice (YWJ) portfolio seeks to increase the availability of, and access to, economic growth and personal development opportunities for individuals in a broad spectrum of life circumstances, including young adults who are not in school or not working; youth who have been impacted by the foster care system; adults who are seeking training and employment to better support their families; and individuals who have been involved with the criminal legal system or are at risk of system involvement. This portfolio supports a wide range of programs that provide counseling, training, and other services to individuals at various stages in their journeys. Within our YWJ portfolio, Tiger Foundation prioritizes funding for:

    • Program models that engage out-of-school, out-of-work youth and/or young adults who are in and/or aging out of foster care through a range of supports that prepare them for successful, fulfilling, independent adulthood, including education and employment services that connect to career pathways.
    • Structured workforce development programs that focus on building job-readiness and hard skills through sector-specific trainings for growth industries; placing individuals into jobs where there are career and wage progression opportunities.
    • A range of services for individuals who are involved with the criminal legal system or are at risk of criminal legal system involvement, with priority on programs that are preventive and engaging for clients. In addition, we support services that can help individuals fulfill their obligation to the courts and rejoin communities with strong connections to services, employment, and education.
