    The George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation is dedicated to serving the people of the State of Utah by carrying forth the philanthropic interests and goals of its founders. The Foundation supports projects and programs that have the potential to make a significant difference in bettering Utah's communities and enriching the quality of life of its citizens, granting funds in the following areas:

    • Arts and Culture: Foundation gifts in this area are directed to qualified charitable organizations and their projects that foster the enjoyment and appreciation of the visual and performing arts, strengthen the humanities and arts-related education programs, provide affordable access for all Utahns to events and performances, enhance artistic elements in communities, and nurture a new generation of artists throughout Utah.
    • Community: Foundation gifts in this area are directed to qualified charitable organizations and their projects that provide social services and humanitarian aid to help people in need, including low-income populations, the homeless and hungry, the physically or mentally challenged, and the young and the elderly who may require special assistance, as well as those offering community enrichment for all citizens.
    • Education: Foundation gifts in this area are directed to qualified charitable organizations, including colleges and universities, that elevate the overall excellence of higher education in Utah by strengthening the quality of their academic and outreach programs, scholarships, faculty, and facilities, and by helping all Utahns reach their educational goals, thereby strengthening the state's economy through a more educated citizenry.
    • Health Care: Foundation gifts in this area are directed to qualified charitable organizations offering health-care services and information in Utah's urban and rural areas, including grants for equipment, facilities, and program support for those involved in medical diagnosis, treatment and education, disease prevention, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and the development of creative new ways to address health-care challenges.
    • Preservation and Conservation: Foundation gifts in this area are directed to qualified charitable organizations that preserve and protect the natural environment, and to those involved in historic preservation including the renovation and restoration of unique historic structures, and programs that foster an understanding and appreciation of the history of Utah and its many cultures.

    The Foundation is interested in projects and programs:

    • which are consistent with the Foundation's identified areas of interest.
    • which have significant potential to make a measurable impact in an area of need.
    • which the applicant organization considers of highest priority in carrying out its primary objectives in the community.
    • which show broad-based financial support from a variety of funding sources.

    Additional Information

    Funding requests will NOT be considered from the following types of organizations:
    • Those that have not received a tax exemption letter establishing 501(c)(3) status from the Internal Revenue Service, unless they are a unit of government, in which case such a letter is not required.
    • Other private foundations.
    • Those of a political nature that attempt to influence legislation and/or candidacy of persons for elected public office.
    • Conduit organizations, unified funds, or those that use funds to make grants to support other organizations.
    • Those that do not have fiscal responsibility for the proposed project.
    Funding requests will NOT be considered for the following types of projects or programs:
    • Contingencies, deficits, or debt reduction.
    • General endowment funds.
    • Direct aid to individuals.
    • Conferences, seminars, or medical research.
    • Requests which do not fall within the Foundation's specified areas of interest.

    Deadline Details

    Grant applications may be submitted at any time once you have been provided with a Grant Application Form. Your application will generally be acted upon within 90 days of receipt at a quarterly meeting of the Board of Directors.
